First of all, I would like to dedicate this website to Dr. Teresa Frazer, M.D., FAAP Pediatric Endocrinologist, Bluefield, W. Va. 24701
My son, Joshua, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes (type 1 which is the type that CANNOT be "cured" by diet and exercise) at the tender age of eleven. He is a healthy twenty- nine year old and remains my number one hero.
From a parent's perspective, I see the struggles diabetics face each day and realize love and support from those around them can help tremendously in their control along with the dialy regimen of insulin administration. That's what it is all about! Controlling diabetes instead of letting it control you. Parents must take an active role in their child's diabetic care, not only physically, but also emotionally. I have organized this support group to help parents do just that!
